Mpumi Mbhete grew up in eMalahleni in Witbank, Mpumalanga. After finishing matric in 2005, she left Witbank and moved to Johannesburg in order to study Journalism at the University of Johannesburg.

She describes herself as being a Radio/TV presenter, corporate MC/voice over artist and ambassador for Star Saver which is an organization that promotes financial literacy.

She has enjoyed a successful career on TV, presenting Ses’Khone and Zoned as well as hosting I-Dentity on SABC 1.

She was previously an EPG Editor at Multichoice and production assistant at Broad Daylight Films and also presented on Ligwalagwala FM.
Mpumi currently presents the Breakfast show on Nelspruit based Radio station RiseFM and serves as managing director of her own events company Fammpumi events.

Mpumi is an ambassador for Star Saver which is a program that aims to promote Financial Literacy and teach the youth how to budget and save.
She believes that drinking is a problem among the youth of today due to the overexposure which alcohol is given in the media. She also believes that under-age drinking can be curtailed through structured community engagement programs such as by encouraging them to participate in clean-ups and visit prisons.

Mpumi believes that “any person without a dream can perish and that any person without a goal can lose direction”. She believes that it is essential for young people to have others believing in them and having support structures if they are to achieve success.
